Lester Riesberg, age 89 of Carroll, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Mable Rose Estates in Papillion, Nebraska.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy R. Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lectors will be Lester’s sons: Dale and Kent Riesberg. Gift Bearers will be Lester’s granddaughters: Danielle Riesberg, Kayleen Collins, Katie Anderson, Rhonda Brunson, Janice Riesberg, Rachel Riesberg and Amanda Riesberg. Eucharistic Ministers will be a daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jim Golwitzer and son, Richard Riesberg. Casket Bearers will be Lester’s grandsons: Patrick Riesberg, Douglas Riesberg, Kevin Huebert, Matt Golwitzer, Jay Golwitzer, Jeremiah Riesberg, Joshua Riesberg, Andrew Riesberg, and Adam Riesberg. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m., Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m., by St. Lawrence Parish. Memorials may be made to the Lester and Angela Riesberg Kuemper Scholarship Fund or St. Lawrence Parish and may be left at the funeral home or the church in Lester’s name. Born on January 4, 1922 in Templeton, Iowa, Lester was the son of Anton and Mary (Sondgeroth) Riesberg. On April 18, 1944, Lester was united in marriage to Angela Dentlinger in Halbur, Iowa. They made their home in Carroll, Iowa for 63 years and were blessed with six children.
Lester’s life was devoted as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Lester’s occupations included farming, owner of an egg and cream route, Halbur hammermill, and Farner-Bocken Company. He was a volunteer at New Hope Village and was a member of St. Lawrence Parish.
Lester is survived by his wife Angela of Carroll; his children: Dale (Karen) Riesberg of Crofton, NE, Sharon (Dallan) Huebert of Omaha, NE, Kathleen (James) Golwitzer of Keller, TX, Kent (Karen) Riesberg of Papillion, NE, Richard (Eunice) Riesberg or Grundy Center, IA, and Roger (Paula) Riesberg of Grand Island, NE; 16 grandchildren: Patrick Riesberg, Douglas Riesberg, Danielle Riesberg, Kevin Huebert, Kayleen Collins, Katie Anderson, Matt Golwitzer, Rhonda Brunson, Jay Golwitzer, Jeremiah Riesberg, Joshua Riesberg, Janice Riesberg, Andrew Riesberg, Rachel Riesberg, Adam Riesberg and Amanda Riesberg; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Anthony (Rose) Riesberg of Carroll; his sisters Lillian Ferneding of Carroll, and Irma (Paul) Grote of Carroll; his sisters-in-law, Hiltrude Riesberg of Carroll, Gladys Halbur, of Halbur and Jeanette Venner of Carroll; brothers-in-law Clarence Fischer of Carroll, James (Rita) Dentlinger of Glidden, Jerome (Elaine) Dentlinger, of Carroll; as well as many nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Clarence, Walter, Andrew, Fr. Leo and Hilbert Riesberg; his sisters: Elizabeth Willenborg and Helen Schweers; his brothers in-law: Paul Ferneding, Maurice Glass, Bernard Willenborg, Vincent Schweers, Vincent Halbur, Edward Venner; and his sisters in-law: Martha Riesberg, Hilda Riesberg and Agatha Fischer.
