Diana Smith, 70 of Carroll, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass Servers will be: Michael Lux, Brandon Baumhover, and Noah Schrad. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Teresa Cullen and Deb Snyder. Gift Bearers will be Diana’s Grandchildren: Katie, Stone, and Claire Smith. Casket Bearers will be Ross Reicks, and Diana’s Grandsons: Grant Smith, Hogan Smith, Reed Smith, Spencer Smith, and Peter Saline. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Church until time of the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the church for the Animal Rescue League of Carroll.

Born on December 23, 1940 at Rockford, Illinois, Diana was the daughter of David Edward and Mary Ellen (Unger) Peavy. She spent her younger years in Rockford and graduated from West Rockford High School in 1958. On March 25, 1966 she married Tony Smith at Silva, Illinois. Diana was a homemaker and also a beautician, after receiving her degree from PCI in Ames. She taught swimming to her children and other children. Throughout her lifetime she lived in Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, Maine, Maryland, Georgia and Iowa. For the past 10 years Diana resided in Carroll. Among her many hobbies were: Arts, painting, the color pink, crafts, QVC, knitting, attending Woodstock, attending garage sales, Pig Latin, and animals, especially her dog Olivia. Diana loved the peace sign and had a strong belief for individual liberties. She was a member of the Carroll Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her sons: Jeff Smith and his wife Linae of West Des Moines, Joel Saline and his wife Kim of Annapolis, MD, Jed Smith of West Des Moines, and Josh Smith and his wife Wendy of Carroll; ten grandchildren: Hogan, Jared, Spencer, Christian, Grant, Reed, Katie, Stone, and Claire Smith, and Peter Saline; her former husband, Tony Smith of Minnesota, and an aunt, Jeanette Unger of Illinois.
Her parents, and a daughter, Noelle Smith preceded her in death.
