Norma Pietig, 87 of Carroll, died early Friday morning, January 27, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Pianist will be Marcy Anderson. Song Leader will be Sherry Loughran. Lector for the funeral mass will be Norma’s granddaughter, Holly Northey, and Norma’s son-in-law, Tom Louis. Gift Bearers will be Norma’s daughters: Sue Northey, Nancy Schumacher, and Pat Louis. Eucharistic Ministers will be Norma’s sister, Sister Bernyne Stark F.S.P.A., and Phil and Michele Phillips. Casket Bearers will be: Scott Northey, Dan Maher, Michael Maher, Brian Schumacher, Holly Northey, and Tom Louis. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Monday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 5:30 p.m, followed by a rosary.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. Tuesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Born on June 23, 1924 at Carroll, Iowa, Norma Frances was the daughter of Frank and Marie (Reck) Stark. She spent her entire lifetime in the Carroll area and attended St. Joseph’s Grade School, before graduating from St. Angela Academy. On July 13, 1943 Norma married Franklin W. Pietig at St. Joseph’s Church in Carroll. Frank and Norma lived in Dedham for a brief time before making their home in Carroll. Throughout her lifetime Norma was a secretary for several businesses in the area and also volunteered at the St. Lawrence Rectory. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, and Parish Ladies Guild.
Survivors include her children: Don Pietig and his wife Alice of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Sue Northey and her husband Scott of Atlanta, GA, Nancy Schumacher of Carroll, and Pat Louis and her husband Tom of Carroll; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sister Bernyne Stark, F.S.P.A. of Lacrosse,WI, and Mary Ann Neppl of Halbur; her sister-in-law, Marion Pietig Martin of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Franklin W. Pietig in February of 1992, and her grandson, Matthew Louis.
