William Becker, 81 of Carroll, died early Friday morning, March 2, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Maureen Becker. Gift Bearers will be Carrie Becker and Ben Becker. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Gary Becker, Allen Becker and Marilyn Hoffman. Casket Bearers will be: Jeff “Spike” Becker, Bill Becker, David Becker, Denny Becker, Mike Headlee, and Rick Hoffman. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Monday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by Holy Spirit Parish at 6 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at noon on Tuesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on November 30, 1930 at Breda, Iowa, William G. was the son of William and Amelia (Reising) Becker. He attended grade school in Breda and graduated in 1948 from St. Bernard’s High School. Following his formal education Bill farmed with his father west of Breda for several years. On February 27, 1954 Bill married Mary L. Headlee at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. He served in the United States Army for a brief time until he was honorable discharged due to medical reasons. Bill returned to the Carroll area and was a farm hand for Leonard Pietig. He then began working for his father-in-law at Carroll Auto Salvage and in 1979 assumed ownership, retiring in 1995. In retirement, Bill worked part-time for Hoffman Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing. In the summertime he enjoyed the family’s cabin at Lake View where he loved fishing, boating, and socializing with his neighbors. Bill also enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking trips to Yankton, South Dakota Spoonbill fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7, and Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary L. Becker of Carroll; his son, Jeff “Spike” Becker and his wife Jackie of Carroll, and their son, Ben Becker; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Becker of Carroll and her children, Bill Becker, and Carrie Becker and her friend Nick Gorden; two sisters: Clarita Roth of Spencer, and Phyllis (Verlin) Danner of Glidden; six brothers: Art Becker of Charter Oak, John (Marna) Becker of Afton, Jerry Becker of Glidden, Allen Becker of Perry, Gary (Maureen) Becker of Perry, and Gene (Kay) Becker of Pomeroy; his sisters-in-law: Eileen Becker of Des Moines, Loa Becker of Maple River, and JoAnn Becker of Carroll; his brothers-in-law: Robert Headlee of Carroll and Jim Vincent of Sac City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Randy Becker and Bill Becker; his sisters: Helen Wolterman and Jovina Becker; and his brothers: Robert, Mike, and Zenas “Zenie” Becker.
