Ed Danzer, 79 of Carroll, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at his residence in Carroll following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb Danner and the St. Mary’s Choir. Mass Servers will be Kolby and Collin Vetter with Ed’s grandson, Mitch Danzer as cross bearer. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Ed’s grandchildren, Jill Tigges and Chad Daniel. Gift Bearers will be Ed’s granddaughters: Sheena Danzer, Mindy Danzer, Nikki Danzer, Heather Daniel, Kelsey Lombard, Kassie Fuqua, and Melissa Brincks. Eucharistic Ministers will be Ed’s daughter, Carol Tigges, Ed’s daughter-in-law, Linda Danzer and Lorena Grossman. Casket Bearers will be Ed’s grandsons: Ben Tigges, Todd Tigges, Keith Brincks, Jason Brincks, Mitch Danzer, Chad Daniel, Tyler Daniel, Ross Rupiper, and KelLee Rupiper. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Willey with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service by St. Mary’s Parish at 7 p.m.

Born on November 4, 1932 at Willey, Iowa, Edmund J. was the son of Joseph and Frances (Balk) Danzer. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and later graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1950. Ed volunteered his service to the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Joan Schettler on May 17, 1956 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. Ed and Joan made their home northeast of Willey where he was a lifelong farmer and raised Charolais cattle. Throughout his lifetime he was active in many organizations: Willey Rockets 4-H, West Central Iowa Chapter of Compassionate Friends, Carroll County Cattle Book Committee, Carroll County Cattleman’s Association, Iowa Cattleman’s Association, and the American International and Iowa Charolais Associations. Ed loved spending time with his family and friends, socializing, playing cards and fishing. He enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and new places with his loving wife Joan. Ed had a knack for meeting new people and always liked to visit with family, friends and fellow cattlemen. He was very proud of all of his grandchildren and was a great supporter of all of their activities. Ed was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish, Carroll Knights of Columbus, and the Dedham American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Joan of Carroll; his children: Carol Tigges and her husband Mark of Glidden, Cathy Brincks and her husband Mike of Glidden, Myron Danzer and his wife Linda of Glidden, Gail Daniel and her husband Randy of Glidden, Diane Rupiper and her husband Kevin of Roselle, and Ken Danzer and his wife Stacie of Carroll; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Weitl of Carroll; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Cedella Danzer of Carroll, Irma Frischmeyer of Ft. Dodge, Irene Reynolds of Omaha, NE, Edwin Schettler of Emmetsburg, Ruth (Paul) Mescher of Manning, Elmer (Ann) Schettler of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Melvin (Barb) Schettler of West Des Moines; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; son Jamie Danzer in 1979; one brother Arnold Danzer; and one sister in infancy.
