John A. “Bud” Schroeder Jr., 85 of Arcadia died, Friday, September 7, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Darlene Leiting and the St. John’s Choir. Lector and Eucharistic Minister will be Rita Bruch. Gift Bearers will be Kristen Ernsperger and Angie Berns. Casket Bearer will be: Kevin Berg, Dennis Ernsperger, Bo Berns, David Schroeder, Art Bruch Jr., and Michael Schroeder. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Monday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. John’s Parish.

Born on December 14, 1926 at Arcadia, Iowa, John A. Schroeder Jr. was the son of John A. and Stella (Muenchow) Schroeder. He spent most of his lifetime in the Arcadia community and attended St. John School, graduating with the class of 1945 from Arcadia High School. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed with the 8th Air Force Division in Okinawa as a Cryptographer. On January 21, 1956 John was married to Alice Bayer at St. Mary’s Church in Willey, Iowa by Fr. H.J. Dries. John and Alice made their home in the Arcadia area where he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1982. Bud enjoyed having coffee with his friends, playing cards, word puzzles, and was a fan of Chicago Cub’s baseball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. In August of 2010 Bud traveled with the honor flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was an honorary life member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus, Rural Mail Carrier Association, Arcadia Fire Department for 30 years where he served as secretary/treasurer, 60 year member of the Arcadia American Legion where he was past commander adjutant and served on the honor guard, and was a member of St. John’s Parish in Arcadia.
Survivors include his wife Alice Schroeder of Arcadia; his sister, Barbara Wiegand of Austin, TX; two brothers, Laurence Schroeder of Carroll, and Bruce “Tom” Schroeder of Carroll; his sisters-in-law: Doreen Schroeder of Coon Rapids, and Margaret Bayer of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, George and Catherine Bayer; one sister, Patricia Chormicle; two brothers: Paul Schroeder and James Schroeder; his sister-in-law, Roberta Schroeder; and his brothers-in-law: Stanley Chormicle, and Lee Wiegand.
