Joan Neppel, 59 of Denison, died unexpectedly, Friday, May 1, 2015 at her home in Denison.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. The Celebrant will be Fr. Paul Kelly. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Victor Ramaeker. Mass servers will be: Joel Neppel, Ellana Neppel, and Nathan Grote. Music for the funeral mass will be by Irene Feilmeier and the St. Ann Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: Dawn Feltner and Bob Grote. Gift Bearers will be: Abigail and Alexa Neppel, and Patience and Micah Tague. Eucharistic Ministers will be Leonard Grote and Dan Lally. Casket Bearers will be: Isaac Neppel, Nick Anderson, Travis Heuton, Steven Berger, Dave Grote, John Grote, Ann Holtz and Kelly Jungers. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Vail.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. Ann Church in Vail at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on July 14, 1955 at Carroll, Iowa, Joan Marie was the daughter of Vernon and Winona (McCollum) Grote. She attended St. Lawrence Grade School and later graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1974.
Following her schooling Joan worked at Pauline’s Café in Carroll where she met her husband Jim. Joan and Jim were united in marriage on July 2, 1977 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple made their home on an acreage northwest of Vail. Joan was employed at General Electric in Carroll, Vail Country Store, and also did babysitting out of her home. Joan was currently employed in housekeeping at the Denison Care Center where she had been working for the past 15 years.
In her spare time Joan enjoyed crocheting baby blankets, playing cards, trips to the casino, communicating via the internet with her pen pals, and weekend getaways with her husband Jim. Joan’s greatest joy and love was her family; she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was always one to send a card for a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. Joan was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail where she was a member of the parish choir.
Joan is survived by her husband Jim Neppel of Denison; her children: Timothy (Hope) Neppel of Olatha, KS, Christopher (Michaela) Neppel of Maple River, Stephanie (Jason) Tague of Clinton, and Jonathan (Lisa) Neppel of Omaha; her grandchildren: Abigail Neppel, Patience Tague, Micah Tague, Alexa Neppel, and Baby Boy Neppel; her parents, Vernon and Winona Grote of Carroll; her siblings: Louisa (Donnie) Feltner of Storm Lake, Robert (Marj) Grote of Carroll, Louis (Cindy) Grote of Carroll, Dale (Diane) Grote of Bloomington, IN, Jolene (Dale) Berger of Westside, Kathy (Manard) Hull of Lake City, Allen Grote of Carroll, and Brenda (Lynn) Heuton of Carroll; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ruth Ann (Dan) Lally of Vail, Joleen (Ken) Little of Rindge, NH, Rosalyn Needham of Brooklyn, Teresa (Ted) Lange of South Riding, VA, and Jerome (Brenda) Neppel of Ames; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Arby and Helen Neppel; her sister, Sandra Fritz; and her niece, Jodi Grote.
