Patricia Ann was born on August 22, 1926 at Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Vera (Bong) Loftus. She lived in Des Moines until she was twelve and then moved to Ft. Dodge with her father, grandmother and aunt. She attended Sacred Heart School where she met her future husband and high school sweetheart, Paul Goins.
After graduation she attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids for secretarial studies. Following her schooling she moved back to Ft. Dodge where she was employed in the office at Tobin. Pat was a proud of her schooling and was a lifelong supporter of Mount Mercy and shared many stories of her time there.
On November 6, 1948, Pat was united in marriage to Paul “Kelly” Goins at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ft. Dodge. Following their marriage Pat and Kelly moved to Carroll where they raised their 4 children and later owned and operated what came to be known as Kelly Coin. Pat played a significant role in the success of the business through her support for Paul, taking calls for repairs and keeping a warm meal on the table for his late work nights. She was quite spoiled by Paul. Days before he passed away he was still saying how crazy he was about her.
A proud Irish Catholic, Pat’s faith was very strong. There was no doubt in her mind she would see her husband again and those relatives and friends that had gone before her. She loved Iowa State Basketball, knowing all of the players and coaches names, and enjoyed telling others about the exciting game the next day.
Pat was devoted to St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary since the late 70’s. She took her “job” very serious and rarely missed a Tuesday work day with the auxiliary. She loved being around people.
Pat had a very sharp memory. She could remember conversations that happened at a young age. Her stories were detailed and her friends were many. She truly enjoyed life, making new friends every day and still had friendships from her early years in Carroll. Pat enjoyed having coffee with her friends and of course shopping! There wasn’t a dress shop she didn’t like or a diamond that didn’t make her smile.
Pat and Kelly loved socializing and in the 1980’s had a group of couples who got together every Thursday for supper. In the beginning it consisted of two cars full of couples. Most recently it was down to Pat and Bud Wells, following the passing of Frances Conner in January.
Pat was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, and the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Survivors include her children: Dave Goins and his wife Dorene of Omaha, NE, Rick Goins of Sioux City, Dan Goins and his wife Lisa of Carroll, and Claudia Loneman and her husband Matt of Carroll; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul “Kelly” Goins; her daughter-in-law, Lynette Goins; her parents in-law, Virgil and Mae Goins; her bother in infancy, Michael; and her brother in-law, Jerry Goins.
