Helen “Chris” Tornow, age 79, of Carroll, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Thursday where visitation will be from 5-7 p.m.

Born on November 20, 1935 in Crawford County, Iowa, Helen was the daughter of George and Minnie (Dethlefsen) Christiansen. She grew up in Crawford County and attended Denison Community Schools. On September 20, 1953 she was united in marriage to Merill Tornow at Denison, Iowa, to this union five children were born. Chris has resided in the Carroll community since 1957. Over the years Chris worked various jobs in the community, but most recently she was employed at Kerps.
Chris enjoyed going to as many garage sales as she could attend, golfing, gardening, bowling, and walking at Swan Lake where she enjoyed the wildlife. Most of all Chris enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Chris was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll.
Left to celebrate Chris’ life are her children: Debra (Dave) Mosher of Carroll, Linda (Ron) Lingle of Carroll, Craig Tornow of Ute, Keith (Jennifer) Tornow of Halbur, and Kelly Tornow of Westside; 9 grandchildren: Melissa Mosher, Steve (Jullian) Mosher, Shane Lingle, Tarin (Ryan) Tiefenthaler, Tina (Nate) Thompson, Tim Tornow, Zachary Tornow, Tyler Tornow, and Brittany Tornow; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister Norma Nelson of Boone, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Maxine, Delores, Darlene, Judy, and Donna; and her brothers: LeRoy, Lloyd, Chuck, and Clifford.
