Merlin Haverman, 72 of Carroll, died Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Carroll Health Center.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music for the funeral mass will be by Barb McDermott, Holy Spirit Choir, with John Wagner as soloist. Lector for the funeral mass will be Jeanne Haverman. Gift Bearers will be David Wagner and Ann Lengeling. Eucharistic Minister will be Gary Haverman. Casket Bearers will be: Aaron Haverman, Leon Williams, Alan Meiners, Dan Bruch, Bill Haverman, and Larry Halbur. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 7 p.m.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Holy Spirit Parish.

Born on July 19, 1942 at Carroll, Iowa, Merlin was the son of William and Alma (Irlmeier) Haverman. He grew up near Roselle and attended Holy Angels School. Following his schooling, Merlin held several jobs in the Carroll area. Merlin was engaged in farming with grain and livestock on the family farm south of Roselle and later moved to the Carroll community.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed going for drives, and was a collector of silver coins. Merlin had a deep devotion to his faith and was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll.
Merlin is survived by his daughters: Tricia Gohlke and her husband Greg of Dayton, OH, and Carrie Cleary and her husband Michael of Duncannon, PA; his grandchildren: Pierce, Quinn, and Olivia Gohlke; his siblings: Velma Williams of Halbur, Colleen (Tony) Meiners of Carroll, Betty (Leo) Bruch of Templeton, Robert (Sue) Haverman of Ankeny, Diane (Tom) Subbert of Peoria, IL, Gary (Jeanne) Haverman of Bayard, Don (Mona) Haverman of Cedar Falls, and Mary Jo (Tony) Duke of Ankeny; as well as many nieces, nephew, and other extended relatives.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Toots Haverman; his brother-in-law, Ray Williams; and his nephew, Andy Haverman.
