Born on February 6, 1931 in Earling, Iowa, Albert Joseph was the son of Carl and Edith (Rosmann) Assmann. He grew up in Earling before the family relocated to the Carroll area. In 1950 Albert graduated from Carroll High School. On August 9, 1952 Albert was united in marriage to Eunice A. Augustine at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll.
Albert had a passion for working with his hands as a carpenter in his younger years, and upon marriage, he turned his passion to working his farm, and feeding livestock. Albert worked the land for years, farming just outside of Lidderdale. In addition, he spent many years custom farming for others. The end of most summers was marked by a family vacation to Northern Wisconsin, where Albert could often be found behind the wheel of the speedboat pulling as many skiers as the boat could handle.
In his retirement years, he spent countless hours playing cards at Al’s Corner, and the Carroll Recreation Center. He and his wife Eunice spent their retirement winters in Phoenix, at their daughter Jeanne’s home, where he developed a skill for harvesting oranges, and polishing his riding lawn mower skills, a smaller version of the John Deere tractor. Albert will be remembered by his family and friends for his strong work ethic, his love for his farm and family, his ability to fix anything, and don’t forget the Thursday night men’s golf at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course. Albert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale, a church he helped build in his younger years.
