Mary Soppe, age 97, of Dedham, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Grand Oaks Care Center in Palm Coast, Florida.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph Choir. Gift bearers will be Hannah and Kirsten Mescher. Casket Bearers will be Mary’s family. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Dedham. The Dedham American Legion Auxiliary will form and honor guard for the funeral mass.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Monday, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Joseph Church in Dedham at 9 a.m. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on August 25, 1918 at Dedham, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Korwes) Lohman. Mary grew up in the Dedham community, and graduated from St. Joseph’s School. On November 21, 1944 Mary was united in marriage to Edward Soppe at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa with Most Reverend Frank Greteman officiating. The couple made their home in Dedham. Mary worked at Priebes Egg Plant in Manning, and then at the Lauridsen Creamery in Dedham, before her and her husband owned and operated Dedham Upholstery. After Edwards passing Mary continued to run the business herself for over 25 years.
Mary lived in Dedham most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish for over 70 years. She was a former president of the St. Joseph Guild, and a member of the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary. Mary moved to Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and lived there near her son Ron and family for 15 years. She returned to Carroll in 2005, and lived there until moving to Florida in 2011 to live with her son Gary, until her passing. Mary enjoyed embroidery work, crossword puzzles, and her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her son Gary and his wife Romona Soppe of Palm Coast, FL; her daughter-in-law Terry Soppe of Templeton, Iowa; six grandchildren: Christine (Wes) Tam of Ankeny, Wendy (Pat) Mescher of Carroll, Amy Trammel of Savannah, GA, Rebecca Soppe of Greenwood, SC, Elyssa (Howie) Frank of Minneapolis, MN, and Christopher (Jennifer) Patten of Tampa, FL; five great-grandchildren: Matt and Michael Walczak, Hannah and Kirsten Mescher, and Alexis Trammel.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward on April 11, 1969, her son Ron on March 15, 2007, two brothers: Henry Lohman, and John Lohman, two sisters: Clara (Billmeier) Koester, and Anna Hall.
