Freda R. Tigges, age 86, of Dedham died Saturday, January 02, 2016, at Park View Assisted Living in Coon Rapids, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Mass Servers will be Kalee and Kara Peters. Music will be by Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph Choir. Lector will be Sarah Morrison. Gift Bearers will be Freda’s granddaughters: Gina Wiges, Sarah Morrison, Megan Bonney, Kalli Wilder, Chelsea McCool, Katie Boehm, Alyssa Tigges, Hannah Tigges, and Breanna Klein. Eucharistic Ministers will be Kalli and Matt Wilder. Casket Bearers will be Freda’s grandsons: Cory Tigges, Tyler Meaike, Bruce Boehm, Jr., Adam Klein, Shawn Klein, and Riley Klein. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Dedham American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Monday, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. Joseph’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on July 23, 1929 at her home near Willey, just minutes after her twin sister Rita, she was the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Berger) Grossman. She attended school at St. Mary’s in Willey, and graduated in 1943. On September 26, 1950 Freda was united in marriage to Joseph H. Tigges, Jr. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey with the Rev. H.J. Dries officiating. To this union 6 children were born: Dale Tigges, Ron Tigges, Carolyn Boehm, Jeanne Meaike, Julie Klein, and Jamie Tigges.
Freda and Joe farmed south of Dedham until 1967 when they bought a farm near Viola Center. Freda worked several years at Garst Seeds sorting corn. She always had a big garden, and was always busy canning, sewing, and cooking for those she loved. Most of all she loved her family gatherings, playing cards, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joe and Freda retired from farming in 1989, and built a new house on the south edge of Dedham. For over 40 years Freda was a 4H leader, she also was a member of the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham.
Freda is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Joe of Dedham; her children: Ron Tigges of Lake Forest, CA, Carolyn Boehm (and friend Scott Olson) of Audubon, Jeanne Meaike of Audubon, Julie (Harlan) Klein of Neola; her daughters-in-law: Bonnie Tigges of Audubon, and Jean Tigges of Adel; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way; her siblings: Imelda Kerkhoff of Manning; Delores (Jim) Greenwood of Cottage Grove, MN, and Marilyn (Wayne) Heithoff of Urbandale; her sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Ed Tigges of Carroll, Lorena Grossman of Carroll, Alma Klocke of Carroll, and Don (Marlene) Tigges of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Freda was preceded in death by her children: Dale Tigges, and Jamie Tigges; a son-in-law: Lenord Meaike, her parents Bernard and Mary Grossman; her siblings: Marie Thielen, Louis Grossman, Bob Grossman, Helen Thielen, Rita Tigges, two infant siblings: Lucy Anna Grossman, and Andrew Grossman; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph Sr. and Anna (Brauckman) Tigges, brothers-in-law: Bill Thielen, Charles Thielen, and Meryl Kerkhoff and her sister-in-law, Marian Grossman.
