Dot Monahan, 89 of Carroll, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 27, 2016 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll with her family by her side.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Jake Schulz. Gift Bearers will be: Caitlin, Casey, Cameron, and Cohen Cook. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Jamie Coobs, Meaghn Vogl, Caitlin Cook, Alyssa Weber, and Mackenzie Monahan. Casket Bearers will be: Jason Monahan, Chris Monahan, Aaron Schulz, Jake Schulz, Nick Schulz, Dean Coobs, Troy Vogl, Casey Cook, Klynt Weber, Ryan Mahoney, Chase Monahan, and Tage Monahan. Private family burial will follow the funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Churdan.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Spirit Church and continue until time of the funeral mass.

Born on January 29, 1926 at Churdan, Iowa, Dot was the daughter of Harold and Goldie (McQuinney) Baynes. In her early years, the family moved to Jefferson where she received her formal education, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1944.
Dot was united in marriage to Vincent Monahan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson. To this union were five children: Vinny Joseph, Shelley, Maria, Sean, and Colin.
She enjoyed going to tag sales and antique auctions with her son Sean and displaying the treasures she found in her home. Dot was well known in the Carroll area as a feature columnist for the Daily Times Herald. She enjoyed researching Carroll history and interviewing local townspeople. After leaving the Carroll paper she received her real estate license and insurance license. Dot was employed by Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance Company and later Metropolitan Life Insurance. She also worked for a time at Sitel Marketing Company in Carroll. For many years, Dot wrote several humorous short stories about her childhood that later became a book.
Dot and her family will be forever grateful for the warm loving care she received while residing at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll and will be lovingly remembered for her fondness of Dove Ice Cream Bars.
Dot is survived by her children: Shelley Schulz and her husband Royce of Scranton, Maria Anderson and her husband James of Ankeny, Sean Monahan of Carroll, and Colin Monahan and his wife Sonya of Bayard; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; as well as other extended relatives.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her son Vinny Joseph Monahan; her son-in-law, Richard Mahoney; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Eilers-Monahan; and her sisters: Maxine Blackburn and Erma Dunlap.
