Marvin Gottsch, age 73, of Carroll, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rev. Cindy Johnson of St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll will preside. Burial will be at the Westside Cemetery near Westside, with military honors conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and continue until the time of the funeral service.

Born on July 24, 1942 at Carroll, Iowa; Marvin was the son of Rudolph and Lena (Thies) Gottsch. He grew up on the family farm near Westside, and graduated from Westside High School. After high school Marvin enlisted in the United States Air Force. He honorably served for 21 years and 10 months, earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. While serving in the Air Force, Marvin met Jennifer Sawer, and they were married on June 2, 1973 at R.A.F. Lakenheath U.K.
Marvin retired from the Air Force, and worked for the United States Department of Defense for 19 years. Marvin and Jennifer then retired to Carroll in 2004. Marvin enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Pittsburg Steelers, and playing darts. His grandchildren were his pride, and his life after his retirement. Marvin will be remembered for being a private, patriotic American.
Marvin is survived by his wife Jennifer Gottsch of Carroll; his sons: Colin Ritchie of Washington State, and Phillip Ritchie, and his wife Patty of Westside; grandchildren: Alma Florez of Westside, Sam Ritchie of Westside, Rebecca Ritchie of Westside, and Alexandra Ritchie of Germany; his sister Marlene Carmicheal of California; his sisters-in-law: Margaret (Richard) Howlel of Spalding, England, and Jo Clark (special friend Trevor Cox) of Outwell Wisbech, England; as well as his nieces, and nephews, and other extended relatives.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Lena Gottsch; his sister Ruth Stults, and brother Wilbur Gottsch.
