Thomas Lee Dentlinger, age 60, of Carroll died Monday, August 22, 2016 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with bone cancer.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Mass Servers will be Mitchell and Parker Badding. Lectors will be Diane Dentlinger, and Karen Daniel. Gift Bearers will be Nicole Dentlinger, and Kelsey Dentlinger. Eucharistic Ministers will be Joni Badding and Joe and Katie Daniel. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Joe Renze, Chris Loew, Kelly Feldman, and Larry McCullough. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church, and continue until the time of the funeral mass.

Tom was born on March 16, 1956 in Carroll, Iowa to Elmer and Elaine (Hitzemann) Dentlinger. He was raised on a farm near Arcadia, Iowa where he attended grade school, and then attended Kuemper Catholic High School, and Carroll High School.
Tom was an avid golfer at the Carroll Muni, and played on a local pool league for many years. Tom loved crossword puzzles, watching college and NFL football, and college basketball, especially March Madness. He really loved his sports. Tom worked for Syngenta in Mt. Carmel for 33 years before retiring in July of 2016. He loved to socialize by going out to eat and camping with friends and family. He really enjoyed family outings and time with friends. Tom “TD” could frequently be heard saying “Are you kidding me?” on the golf course, and when asked how he golfed that day, he would respond “I played like a pig,” Tom had a deep devotion to his faith, he was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Dentlinger, a brother Chris Dentlinger, a sister, Pam Small and her husband Jack Small, paternal grandparents: Joe and Anna Dentlinger, maternal grandparents: Fred and Matilda Hitzemann, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his mother, Elaine V. Dentlinger of Carroll, his brothers, Duane (Wanita) Dentlinger of Carroll, Roy Dentlinger of Glendale, AZ, his very special friend, Cindy Schumacher of Carroll; nieces: Nicole Dentlinger of Ankeny, and Kelsey Dentlinger and her fiancé Joe Karstens of Glidden, nephews: Dave (Dora) Dentlinger of Carroll, and Ryan Pruitt and his fiancé Crystal Koehler of Sioux Falls, SD, and a great nephew Logan Karstens of Glidden; as well as many cousins, and extended family.
