Marilyn Berg, age 82, of Arcadia, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, surrounded by her family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Con-Celebrants will be Fr. Gary Snyder, and Fr. Ed Tiedeman. Music will be by Sharon Bierl and the St. John’s Choir. Lectors will be Russ Berg, and Ryan Berg. Gift Bearers will be Hallie Berg, Ashley Michael, Kelli Avery, Elise Berg, Alison Berg, Olivia Berg, and Breanna Thielen. Eucharistic Ministers will be Karen Thielen, Ryan Berg, and Matthew Berg. Casket Bearers will be Jeremey Berg, Jeff Ludwig, Collin Berg, Matthew Berg, Bryce Berg, and Jacob Berg. The St. John’s Christian Mothers will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, where there will be a St. John’s Christian Mothers Rosary prayed at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Additional visitation will be on Wednesday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.

Born on September 20, 1934 on the family farm near Mt. Carmel, Iowa, Marilyn was the daughter of Frank and Julie (Bruning) Stangl and the youngest of 12 siblings. She grew up near Mt. Carmel, and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School where she graduated.
On November 16, 1957 she was united in marriage to Dennis Berg at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple made their home west of Arcadia. In 1983 the couple moved to their family farm east of Arcadia.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to quilt, sew, garden, and bake. She also enjoyed baseball where she frequently watched her children and grandchildren coach and play. Most of all Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family. Marilyn was a member of St. John’s Parish, and St. John’s Christian Mothers. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and for her favorite past time, Polka Dancing with her husband Dennis.
Left to celebrate Marilyn’s life is her husband of 58 years, Dennis Berg of Arcadia; her eight children and their spouses: Deb (Roger) Ludwig of Breda, Rich (Kristie) Berg of Ames, Russ Berg of Woodstock, IL, Karen (Jim) Thielen of Coggon, Rob (Bonnie) Berg of Ankeny, Roger (Kathy) Berg of Carroll, Rod (Angie) Berg of Carroll, and Ryan (Courtney) Berg of Storm Lake; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Merle Stangl of Atlantic, and Warren (Laura) Stangl of Claremont, MN; her sister-in-laws: Arlene Stangl of Coon Rapids, and Margaret Stangl of Osage, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Alma Mattes, Elaine Schmitz, Kenneth Stangl, Eunice Reising, Vernon Stangl, Glen Stangl, Gaylord Stangl, Lorraine Weitl, and Cedella Danzer.
