Holly Volquartsen-Kanne, age 40 of Carroll, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and Sherry Loughran. Mass Servers will be: Max Pietig, Nate Overmohle, and Nolan Overmohle. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Julie Williams and Lori Seidl. Gift Bearers will be: Trevin Vanderheiden, Megan Volquartsen, and Griffin Volquartsen. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Shelli Juergens, Joni Badding, and Ann Pottebaum. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Jen Burns, Steph Horbach, Anne Collison, and Shelli Juergens. Casket Bearers will be: Nick Collison, Jagar Vanderheiden, Trevin Vanderheiden, Joel Williams, Craig Reiman, Tom Reiman and Tony Troutman.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Saturday morning where visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until time of the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Animal Rescue of Carroll.

Holly “Hilda V” Lyn Volquartsen was born on January 3, 1977, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Linda (Reiman) Volquartsen. Holly graduated with the Class of 1995 from Kuemper Catholic High School. She then enjoyed working alongside her siblings in the family business, Volquartsen Custom, as well as adding her artistic contribution of the VC symbol. The year 2000 brought her greatest joy when she was blessed with her beautiful daughter, Scyler. On July 3, 2010, she was married to her love, Chad Kanne, in Carroll, Iowa, where they made their home with Scyler, and her beloved pets, Hunter, Joplyn, Butch, and Kya.
Holly was definitely one of a kind known for her bigger-than-life presence and always ended up the center of attention. She had a way of embellished storytelling that would have everyone rolling with laughter. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She had a generosity that surpassed any. If you ever complimented anything she had, she would more than likely offer it to you on the spot or soon get it for you. Her charismatic and magnetic personality lit up a room with her way of making everyone welcome and feeling they were leaving with a new best friend. Those that knew her well appreciated her entertaining vocabulary. Holly truly enjoyed being with her husband, family, and friends, but, most of all, time with her daughter, Scyler. She was good about attending her nieces and nephews’ activities. Holly was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, shopping, dancing, lip syncing, and anything related to Prince and his music with her two favorite quotes being: “Dearly beloved, we have gathered here today to get through this thing called life,” and “life is just a party and parties weren’t meant to last.” – Prince
We were not blessed to have our beautiful Holly take as many breaths as we wanted, but the time we had with her took our breath away.
Left to cherish Holly’s memory are her husband, Chad Kanne of Carroll; her daughter, Scyler Menke of Carroll; her parents, Tom Volquartsen of Council Bluffs and Linda Volquartsen of Carroll; her siblings: Jodi (Marty) Vanderheiden of Carroll, Scott (Amy) Volquartsen of Carroll, and Nic (Stephanie) Volquartsen of Carroll; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Neil and Deb Kanne of Lidderdale; sister-in-law, Kari (Trent) Martin of Minneapolis, MN; maternal grandmother, Marge Reiman of Carroll; step-grandfather, Wilbert Lussman of Carroll; grandmother-in-law, Bernice Heisterkamp of Carroll; nephews and nieces: Jagar Vanderheiden, Trevin Vanderheiden, Nick Collison, Megan Volquartsen, Griffin Volquartsen, Jace Volquartsen, Jemma Volquartsen, and Ivey Volquartsen; aunts and uncles; as well as many cousins and friends.
Holly was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Paul Volquartsen; paternal grandmother, Dorothy (Volquartsen) Lussman; maternal grandfather, Orv Reiman; grandparents-in-law, Lyle Heisterkamp; Aloys Kanne and Louise Kanne.
